A specialized forceps designed specifically for the extraction of impacted or partially erupted mandibular third molars (wisdom teeth). The #5, often called the "Physick" or "Cowhorn" forceps, features a unique, heavy pistol-grip handle and distinctive curved, pointed beaks that engage the furcation area of the lower molar to deliver the tooth with a rotational and elevating force.
Extraction of mandibular third molars, particularly those with divergent roots.
Removal of partially erupted or fully erupted lower wisdom teeth.
Can be used on other lower molars with favorable root anatomy (divergent roots).
Note: Requires significant skill and care to avoid root fracture or mandibular trauma; not for beginners.
